The World Environment Day Festival (WED Fest) is happening again on the Sunshine Coast in June.

The Sunshine Coast Environmental Council has been celebrating their signature event for over four decades.

This year’s  theme — ‘Ecosystem Restoration’ — will bring attention to the protection and restoration of ecosystems on the Sunshine Coast.

Coordinator Natalie Frost said WED Fest was an opportunity to connect with ecosystems across the region and take part in protecting them.

“Partnering with local environment groups and organisations and local business, the WED Fest program will showcase ecosystem restoration projects throughout the region and give people an opportunity to take part in protecting native flora and fauna.”

There is a range of events and activities from tree plantings to eco-markets at the gorgeous Crystal Waters Eco Village in Conondale.

• Club Acoustic Blackboard Sessions - Maleny - 3rd June: One of the Sunshine Coast’s premier monthly music events, supporting emerging artists and featuring experienced musicians & performers.

• Crystal Waters Village Markets - Conondale - 5th June: Launch WED Fest at Conondale with a market featuring fresh produce, craft and bric-a-brac stalls, live music, inspiring speakers program discussing ecosystem restoration, kids playground, great coffee and food, and much more!

• Guided Walk at Book Farm - Maleny - 6th June: Join Hinterland Bush Links on a guided tour of a restoration project at the headwaters of Obi Obi Creek.

• Bergann’s Lane Walk - Witta - 12th June: Guided by Spencer Shaw, ecological restoration specialist who undertook the ecological restoration / wildlife corridor project at Bergann’s Lane Walk (Witta, Blackall Range).

• Guided Yandina Wetland Walk - Yandina - 19th June

Join us for a special guided interpretive walk in this space of ecological significance. Understand the value of this special place, the species that call it home and the future aspirations of Blue Heart Sunshine Coast, an award-winning partnership project that the wetland forms part of.
