Jones: ‘I answer only to the people of Fisher’

In Fisher, Keryn Jones rejects the notion that her candidacy was orchestrated by southern donors or party bosses.

“I’m proud to be a community-backed independent, chosen through extensive local engagement—not by party bosses,” she said.

Ms Jones highlighted the importance of addressing regional priorities. “Locals tell me we need better transport, more social housing, infrastructure to keep up with growth, and greater access to GPs and mental health care,” she said. “They also want real commitment to protecting our beaches and hinterland.”

Her campaign, Ms Jones insists, is strongly rooted in local support. “I answer only to the people of Fisher, and I've been fully transparent, and quite frankly proud, that so far I’ve been funded by over 100 local donors right here in Fisher, as well as by 13,000 Aussies contributing through Climate 200.”

She contrasts that with major parties, which she claims take millions from large corporate interests. “The only cause for concern is—who are the major party MPs beholden to?”

Ms Jones said that the “teal” moniker emerged among city-based independents and did not define her. “While I also value integrity, fairness and evidence-based decision-making—my campaign is uniquely shaped by the voices and priorities of Fisher, a regional community with distinct challenges and opportunities,” she said.

In the end, Ms Jones said voters deserve an honest choice.

“Locals want an MP who puts their community first, rather than big party donors,” she says.

Candidate for Fisher, Karyn Jones “I’m proud to be a community-backed independent, chosen through extensive local engagement—not by party bosses.”
