Woombye Happy Days band set to rock the streets in May

Woombye is set to swing into full festival mode next month as the Happy Days Festival returns with live music, dancing, vintage flair and a celebration of community spirit.

The popular street event will take over Hill Street outside the Woombye School of Arts Hall on Sunday 4 May. Entry is by gold coin donation, with festivities running throughout the day and spilling into the evening at the Woombye Pub.

A key drawcard this year is The Bowery Boys, the second of two bands to hit the outdoor stage. Known for their “high energy modern rockabilly with a twist of Americana influence,” guitarist and vocalist Trent Chadban said festivalgoers can expect a lively and engaging set.

“There’ll be a lot of modern-day covers with a rockabilly twist and lots of toe-tapping grooves,” Mr Chadban said.

A large dance floor will be installed in front of the stage to encourage visitors to kick up their heels. Bowery Boys are scheduled to play from 1:15pm to 5pm with various breaks for other activities.

Mr Chadban said the band was proud to play at grassroots festivals like Happy Days that support and encourage the live Queensland music scene.

“It helps encourage other local artists to play in front of their community and showcase their talent. This also helps build confidence as an up-and-coming artist,” he said.

The Bowery Boys are also big on supporting fellow performers.

“Any local act we are encouraged by and support,” Mr Chadban added.

Happy Days organiser Milo Frawley said the festival wouldn’t be possible without strong support from sponsors and local businesses. This year’s major sponsor is Bendigo Bank Woombye, with local operators chipping in prizes for the event’s mega raffle, which is valued at over $2700.

The top prize includes a two-night luxury glamping stay at Starry Nights in West Woombye, valued at $1600. Other raffle prizes have been donated by Wildlife HQ, the Treetop Challenge, Sunshine & Sons, Nil Desperandum and Woombye Cheese.

Live music will continue after dark at the Woombye Pub, where locals can enjoy more entertainment and additional fundraising raffles. For more info, check out the Woombye Happy Days Festival on Facebook.
