Woombye Community Forum looks to the future of Woombye

On September 12, the Woombye Community Bank will be holding a Community Forum to gather information, ideas and opinions about a broad range of issues that are pertinent to the wider Woombye community.

“Ideally, we would love to get as many local residents into a room as possible so we can hear a diverse range of opinions about what we need in town to make this an even more vibrant and sustainable place to live,” said Branch Manager, Hayley Saunders.

Since its inception, the Woombye Community Branch has been a staunch supporter of the town and its many organisations and fellow businesses, and not just financially.

“This forum isn’t about us funding every initiative but it will certainly help to inform our community investment strategy over the next three to five years,” Ms Saunders explained.

“It is more about empowering our community, and building capacity and capability, and deepening connections in the town, and we could also use the ideas we gather to garner support from local, State and Federal governments.”

In 2010 a similar forum was held in Woombye and the ideas that came to fruition as a result include the Community Garden, a streetscape project and the ANZAC Day breakfast.

“All of these projects have been wonderful for our community and we launched a Scholarships project at the end of August,” she said.

“During the 2012 forum, the issues of a swimming pool, traffic calming strategies and enhancement of the signage at the entrance to town were also discussed.

“At the next Community Forum I would really love to see parents of young children there because we want to raise our eyes to the future and find ways to work together to come up with an aspiration plan for our beautiful town,” she said.

“This is a wonderfully unique opportunity to plan for Woombye’s future.”

The Community Forum will take place on the 12th of September at 5.30pm for a 6 pm start, at the Woombye State School Hall.
