Print makers make an impression at the Old Ambo
Editions Sunshine Coast is the title of the new exhibition at the Old Ambulance Station Gallery in Nambour running until May 30.
Curated by Ken Munsie and Sandy Doble, Editions brings together 28 print makers from the Sunshine Coast as far as Melbourne. Most are well known but there are some emerging figures as well.
Sandy sees print making as a different way of mark making that can be reproduced many times in the same or different ways.
She enjoys print making because it is very technical, giving artists a chance to experiment with traditional and contemporary techniques. “It gives me the chance to incorporate my photography with fine art practice, which is an ideal fusion,” says Sandy.
Sandy hopes that the exhibition will open the public eye to the amazing number of print makers we have on the Sunshine Coast, and the many different types of work that are possible.
After mostly working in sculptural assemblage, Ken Munsie sees prints as a new challenge, and loves the hands-on side of it.
“During the show, there will be opportunities for visitors to discover new aspects of art. There will be chances to talk to the artists, and there will be three artist-run workshops,” says Ken.
“The art will be on sale too, just in time for Mothers’ Day.” The gallery at the Old Ambo, 80 Howard St, will open seven days from 10am until 4pm.
