Lake Baroon weathers the storm despite 1.5 metre spill

On Monday 10th March the Sunshine Coast Hinterland was inundated with rainfall of up to 500mm in a 24-hour period.

The team at Secrets on the Lake on Lake Baroon, Montville,  had a spectacular view watching the dam rise and then fall over the day as the rain came down.

“From our cozy perch at Secrets on the Lake, George and I watched the level of Lake Baroon rise before our eyes to approximately a metre and a half above the Lake Baroon spillway,” said Secrets owner Aldy Johnston.

“By late afternoon, the level was falling again.

“These events are rare, and Secrets has weathered quite a few over the 30 years since opening our doors to the public.

“While the jetty went underwater (last Monday), the highest recorded lake levels in the past were 2.5 metres above the spillway, and the Lakehouse became a boathouse for a day.

“Luckily, the road to Secrets has never been cut off, and we are set up to function in rain, hail, or shine—and so we did.

Much to the delight of many locals venturing out after days of wet weather.”
