Nature Watch: Crikey! This spider is as big as your hand

Golden Orb Weaver spider

“It was quite a buzz to find a Golden Orb Weaver spider this large,” says avid nature Watch  contributor Don McGlusky of Diddilibah.

“I see many small ones but they always fall prey to a sharp-eyed bird or wasp. This mature female is an excellent example of the species. There are about 100 identified members of the Nephila species and are found in many countries throughout the world. This one was as large as my hand. A less cluttered background would have been nice but this is their enviornment.”
