Remembrance Day ceremony unites Nambour in reflection
Nambour RSL Sub Branch and members of the community gathered for a solemn Remembrance Day ceremony at Quota Memorial Park on Monday (11 November). The service honoured the men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in conflicts, including World War I.
“Remembrance Day serves as a solemn reminder of the service and sacrifice of Australian servicemen and women who lost their lives,” said Nambour RSL Sub Branch President Kim Symmons. “Gallipoli, France, and Belgium were stained with the blood of Australian soldiers. We must never forget.”
The day marks a shared moment of reflection, with Australians uniting in one minute of silence at 11am. The tradition commemorates the over 60,000 Australians who died and the 416,000 who enlisted to defend the country.
“We have kept this promise and will continue to honour those who made the ultimate sacrifice,” Mr Symmons added.
Nambour RSL Pastor Kerry Evans said Remembrance Day was an emotional time, a day on which the nation pauses to reflect on the profound sacrifices made by our servicemen and servicewomen in wars and conflicts across the globe.
“Every year, this day, this hour, this moment belongs to them, who fought for freedom for all Australians.
“We come together, most of us as strangers, but this is what unites us, we recognize the sacrifice that these 102,000 men and woman have made on our behalf over the last 106 plus years.
“Remembrance Day is a time for reflection, gratitude and an unwavering commitment to never forget the men and woman who gave their lives in the service of our nation.
“Today, we honour their selflessness, their dedication to a cause greater than themselves, and the profound love they held for our shared values of freedom, justice, and peace.
“Let us carry the torch of remembrance forward, lighting the way for future generations.”
