Nambour Blue Demons bound for 16th grand final in a row

Nambour Blue Demons have won this year’s presidents Cup and Minor Premiership but are looking to go one step further on Saturday.  They lost last year’s final in a penalty shootout.

Last year’s tense grand final penalty shootout.

Nambour Blue Demons Hockey Club have a long proud history in the Sunshine Coast Hockey Division 1 Women’s competition.

Saturday the 10th September will see them take the field against Maroochydore for their 16th consecutive Grand Final.

Since 2011 the team has taken nine premierships and finished runners up on three occasions with all three losses played out by shoot outs.   The team is led by Co Captains Emily Robertson 32 (a Demon veteran of 25 seasons) and Eva Kersnovske 34.

There is an exciting mix of experience, talent and youth in the team including youngest team member, 14-year-old Mady Windell a Queensland Under 15 player.

“At Nambour we are privileged to have depth of juniors and D2 players to offer development opportunities across the season and look forward to them also being  part of our grand final line up,” said Manager Robyn Woods.

Coach Anthony Mills joined the club this season with the goal to build a solid defensive team that promotes freedom to play fast paced, modern hockey consistently against any opposition.

“The girls have committed to a ‘team first’ and never give up attitude that is reflected by the standard of play they have produced this season,” he said.

“Whilst honoured to take out the 2022 Presidents Cup and the Minor Premiership we all know that it’s the ‘Big Dance’ that all teams strive for.”

Spectators can expect to see an entertaining fast and competitive final. The Women’s Grand Final starts at 7.30pm at the Sunshine Coast Hockey Association’s fields at 176 Ballinger Road Buderim.
