An outpouring of local good will has gladdened the hearts of Nambour St Vincent de Paul volunteers as they struggle to cope with increased homelessness due to a recent rental crisis.

President of Nambour St Vincent de Paul St Josephs Conference Teresa Forrest said people had donated thousands of dollars in response to a story in The Gazette last edition.

“People have been extremly generous on the back of the article,” Teresa said. “It’s been wonderful.

“We raised $2500 at a raffle at church and we’ve had other private donations including one of $500. And a gentleman who had read the article walked in off the street and gave us $1000. So there’s been a real outpouring of generosity from people since we highlighted the issue of homelessness.

“The people of Nambour have been amazing and it helps raise awareness so we are able to put the money where we need to and help more people.”
