Greens name Fairfax and Fisher candidates

The Queensland Greens announced Sue Etheridge as their candidate for Fairfax and Renay Wells as their candidate for Fisher at the upcoming federal election early this week.

Senator Larissa Waters officially launched the campaigns of both candidates at Cotton Tree Park in Maroochydore on Monday.

Sue Etheridge has lived on the Sunshine Coast for 40 years and built a career as a small business owner in finance and accounting, as well as served on the boards of several community organisations.

“I’m running for Fairfax to give people a progressive alternative to the major parties and offer the community positive solutions to our housing and cost of living crisis,” Ms Etheridge said.

“The Greens have a plan to make the billionaires and corporations pay their fair share so we can put dental and mental health into Medicare, provide free GP visits and public education, and build more affordable housing.”

Renay Wells is a Golden Beach local who has built a career as a sustainability leader and business consultant helping industries transition to responsible and sustainable practices.

“Living in Golden Beach, I see firsthand the challenges our community faces, including skyrocketing rents, rising grocery bills, and a climate crisis that gets worse every day,” Ms Wells said.

“As a Greens candidate, I will be campaigning to stop price gouging at the supermarket, push for rent caps and cheaper mortgages for those in housing stress, and take real action on climate change by investing in clean energy and protecting our natural environment.”

Senator Larissa Waters praised Ms Etheridge and Ms Wells as hardworking champions of their community and advocates for positive change.

“We need people like Sue and Renay fighting for the interests of their community, not the interests of billionaires and big corporations like the major parties do,” Senator Waters said.

“With this election likely to result in a hung parliament, we have a chance to deliver dental and mental health into Medicare and take strong action on our housing and climate crisis.

“More Greens in Parliament will keep Dutton out and get Labor to act.”
