Woombye Community Library News

At the Library’s AGM in July the Committee for the coming year was re-elected unanimously.

I think all of us who volunteer at the Library recognise the importance of a strong committed executive team who have a consistent vision for our service, and we have certainly seen that demonstrated by these three hardworking leaders:  Chris Milloy (Convenor), Jenny Power (Secretary) and Sharron Glynn-Armstrong (Treasurer).   Woombye Community and Business Association President Milo Frawley, kindly chaired the AGM and shared with attendees a snapshot of his involvement in the Association and his passion for our local community.

A few of the highlights of the Convenor’s report were:  Thanks to Council two 30 minute carparks designated outside the library have increased ease of access for our borrowers;  funds have been spent on much needed upgrades of our computer and ceiling fans; the past year saw an increase in donations of quality books from the community, many which either enter our catalogue or add value via our regular Book Sales;  our Books on Wheels service and Book Chat monthly events continue; and as always gratitude was expressed to our recurrent funding bodies whose financial support enable us to continue providing a valued local service.

In terms of circulation we see that in the past financial year total loans exceed that of the previous year across most genres, with the most popular remaining adult fiction at over 5000 titles borrowed.

Our new improved WCL website is up and running, with information on our services, hours of operation, social media links and a catalogue search function.  During the winter months only, we are trialling an earlier afternoon closing time of 4.30pm.  We welcome the feedback of borrowers regarding this change and also any feedback on the new website, so please look us up and let us know what you think!
