Woombye Bowls Club hosts Champion Pairs

FOURTEEN ladies’ teams from across the regional bowls clubs descended upon Woombye over the weekend for the 2021 Sunshine Coast District Ladies Bowls Association’s Champion of Club Champions Pairs competition.
The 28 women bowlers were from Woombye, Palmwoods, Nambour, Yandina, Glasshouse Mountains, Maroochydore, Mooloolaba, Pelican Waters, Kawana, Coolum Beach, Headland Pacific and Tewantin-Noosa.
On Saturday morning the first round results were:
• Woombye Bowls Club 23 def Pelican Waters 11
• Caloundra Waves Bowls Club 20 def Club Maroochydore 18
• Kawana Bowls Club 36 def Club Yandina 5
• Coolum Bowls Club 30 def Headland Pacific 21
• Buderim Bowls forfeited to Glasshouse Bowls Club
• Tewantin Noosa 23 def Palmwoods Bowls Club 10.
• Mooloolaba and Nambour were on a bye.
In the afternoon the victors played with Caloundra defeating Woombye 26-4, Club Kawana defeating Coolum Beach 35-5, Tewantin-Noosa defeating Glasshouse Mountains 20-18 and Nambour defeating Mooloolaba 15-13.
There were around 100 spectators cheering their respective team mates and friends.
On Sunday morning it was time for the semi finals with Caloundra’s Neeta Chant and Elaine Knights versing Kawana’s Katelin Inch and Julie Keegan and Tewantin-Noosa’s Mary Williams and Marie McCall playing Nambour’s Syl Fisk and Bev Khrome.
Kawana Waters defeated Caloundra 24-10 while Tewantin-Noosa defeated Nambour 28-14.
The finals were between Kawana and Tewantin-Noosa, with Kawana achieving a resounding win and taking out the 2021 Champion of Club Champions title 32-8.
Katelin Inch and Julie Keegan commented after the win how absolutely immaculate the Woombye Bowls Club greens were, commending greenskeeper Geoff Steel on his dedication.
“He’s obviously done a wonderful job and as bowlers we couldn’t ask for anything better,” said Kaitlin.
“For a little country club, they do it very, very well and we will be back soon hopefully.”
