Witta residents seek action on bats
Residents of Witta, near Maleny, are experiencing issues with bats, also known as flying foxes, and are hoping to work with the Sunshine Coast Council and the Department of Environment & Science (DES) to find a solution.
Organiser Jean McRuvie has led public meetings to address the issue and is currently drafting a submission to present to the council and the DES.
Jean expressed optimism that the parties involved could work together to find a satisfactory outcome. It remains to be seen what measures will be implemented to address the bat problem in the area.
Flying-foxes (also known as fruit bats) are the largest members of the bat family. Flying-foxes feed mainly at night on nectar, pollen and fruit and will also feed on flowering and fruiting plants in gardens and orchards.
