Gym wins global fitness challenge

Great effort: mother and son owners Kaz and Cam Morden’s UBX gym beat 86 other teams to win the challenge.

Members of Nambour’s UBX gym are celebrating winning a global fitness challenge that included 86 other teams across Australia, New Zealand and Singapore.

“It is so rewarding for our members to see their collective consistent hard work and effort acknowledged in this way,” said gym owner, Cam Morden. “We are absolutely blown away by this result.”

The win was part of the gym’s participation in a two-week challenge, one of three that is hosted by UBX: Boxing + Strength, annually.

“The way the points are calculated is via heart rate monitoring in the gym,” Cam explained.

“Individual member’s heart rates during workouts were recorded as ‘effort points’ and the gym with the highest average effort points across the final two weeks of our 6-week training camp won the competition. It was an incredible effort from all involved.”

The UBX brand celebrates its 5th year in Nambour this year and has grown in popularity with people of all ages.

“Our members range in age from 11 to their mid 60’s,” Cam said.

“They include people who have never set foot in a gym in their lives, to people who have been interested in fitness for many years.

“The UBX model was co-founded in Brisbane by four-time World Champion boxer, Danny Green, and it is the fastest growing boxing community in Australia,” he said.

“It is a safe and effective way to get fit, because while it involves all of the fitness techniques and elements of boxing, it is non-contact. We love to see our members achieving their fitness goals and we make sure we have a lot of fun at the same time.”
