The perfect DownTown Burger a blend of art and science

After recently celebrating their fifth birthday, DownTown Burgers owner Cameron Scott says the number one secret to their success, is customer service.

“We work hard on customer service because we want people to walk in the door and immediately feel welcome and comfortable,” Cameron said. “My team is amazing at taking care of customers. People in Nambour are very pro business and we have been blown away by the support they have shown us. We respect and appreciate that they choose to support us.”

DownTown Burgers is in the old Chadwicks building at 99 Currie Street, Nambour. “It is such a great old building and it lent itself perfectly to our restaurant,” Cameron said. “We did a huge amount of work to chip away the layers of paint and plaster to expose the beautiful old bricks.”

The brickwork and original timber floors give DownTown Burgers a warm and homey feel. “I spend heaps of time here, so I wanted it to be a nice place to hang out,” Cameron said.

Cameron and his staff quickly pivoted to keep the doors open during COVID.

“Online ordering became extremely important and we also started deliveries. Friends and family were delivering for us, and I personally texted everyone who ordered a meal to thank them. The feedback we have received has blown me away. I am just so grateful.”

DownTown Burgers offers a wide variety of hearty foods, all freshly prepared onsite. This includes the daily batch of soft pretzel buns. “As far as I am aware, ours are the only ones of this kind in the country,” Cameron said. “It is a lot of effort, but worth it as far as we are concerned. The buns have a nice crunch on the outside, but are soft with a pretzel flavour on the inside. They are vegan friendly, and getting them just right is something of a science!”.

If baking the buns is a science, assembling them is an art. “Our buns perfectly hold the burger ingredients, no matter the size of the order, as well as contain the sauce. Because of the texture of the buns, your fingers don’t poke through them,” said Cameron.

Wings, ribs, chips and onion rings, are also on the menu. Fifty percent of the menu items are gluten free, and most can be adapted. There are also plenty of tasty vegan and vegetarian options from breakfast right through to dessert.

Having grown up in Nambour, and been involved in a number of community organisations, Cameron understands the difficulties they often encounter when it comes to fundraising.

“We have always supported community organisations, because of the vital role they play,” Cameron said. “We are proud supporters of Smart Pups, the Scouts, and many sporting groups. During lockdown we were able to trade, while community groups did not have that freedom. So I invite community groups to reach out to us if they need a hand to fundraise because we are always happy to help with donations of meal vouchers that they can use for raffles.”

This generosity of spirit is well reflected in everything from the welcome you receive when you walk in the door, to the size of the meals. “Our tagline is ‘Leave uncomfortably full!’,” Cameron said. It’s little wonder people keep coming back for more.
