Snake mascot stolen from Woombye soccer club roof but then returned

Woombye Snakes Football Club’s rooftop Red Bellied Black Snake metal sculpture, pictured, was stolen sometime between last Saturday and last Tuesday (February 1).

Interestingly though, an alert reader has reported that the snake was today Tuesday Feb 8, back in its rightful place, on the roof.

The sculpture has sentimental value to the club as it was designed and built by longtime Woombye Snakes supporter Joe Hastie after the passing of his daughter.

“Many hours of hard work went into the creation of this Snake Pit entry statement,” a club spokesperson said.

“Camera footage is being investigated and police have been notified.”

Editor’s Update: Happily, a resident has informed us, at time of going to press, that the welded snake has made its way back atop the roof at The Snake Pit.
