Considering all the great benefits associated with table tennis it could be time to get a few friends together and come along and get fit while having fun.

That’s according to Ken Hay who organises games at the Sunshine Dance Centre in Burnside.

“Table tennis is a safe sport to play because it is not a contact sport,” Ken said. “It is easy on the body and can be enjoyed by players of all ages.

“It is a sport that has many different styles of play. Whether a player focuses on hitting the ball hard, developing keen accuracy or even developing different types of spin on the ball, anyone can have success playing table tennis. You can get the heart pumping and the body moving.

“It’s not only the hands, legs, and body that works, but also the mind. In just a split second, a decision is made. Every action is carefully calculated in the brain and sent to the whole body to execute. Every single second an individual plays table tennis, the brain is busy processing different data gathered through the senses. Playing table tennis requires mind and body coordination.”

Ken said table tennis could be played in any weather and out of the sun.

“Everyone is welcome but we would like to get more ladies playing.

• Table Tennis is played at the Sunshine Dance Centre at 5/15 Windsor Road, Burnside 9am to noon Mondays and Wednesdays. Coaching by a National Coach is available on Fridays 9am to noon for those wanting to improve or learn to play table tennis. Contact Ken Hay - Phone 5492 2830 for more details.
