Awards success thanks to sustainable housing designs
Yandina based modular builder Oly Homes has secured four major awards across two prestigious industry events.
This positions the company as a strong contender for the Queensland HIA-CSR Housing Awards.
Their affordable and sustainable housing solutions saw Oly Homes take home two awards at the 2024 Master Builders Queensland Sunshine Coast Housing & Construction Awards, which they then followed up with two more wins at the HIA
Sunshine Coast & Wide Bay Housing Awards for their Steel Frame Project and Modular and Prefabricated Housing. On the 8th of this month, Oly Homes went on to win both categories at the prestigious QLD HIA awards in Brisbane.
“Oly Homes has been manufacturing affordable prefabricated housing for 53 years,” said General Manager, Steven Nousala.
“But this is the first time we have entered these awards and we are thrilled to have been recognised in this way,” he said.
Mr Nousala said their projects stood out for their combination of innovative design, superior craftsmanship, and thoughtful functionality. “Each home was tailored to meet the unique needs of Queensland’s environment, incorporating energy-efficient features like advanced insulation, steel framing for durability, and eco-conscious materials.
Energy efficient
Oly Homes incorporates sustainability and energy efficiency by using high-quality insulation in walls, ceilings, and subfloors to enhance thermal performance, and they utilise energy-efficient glazing to reduce heat transfer and improve climate control.
“These features minimise energy consumption and create comfortable, sustainable living spaces. Our steel frame and modular homes stand out for their durability, precision, and sustainability. Steel frames provide strength, termite resistance, and longevity, while modular construction ensures faster builds with minimal waste.”
Manufactured on-site
The homes are manufactured on site in Yandina or Cooroy, and are then transported to remote and regional locations around Queensland. The company averages a 10 to 12 week turnaround on builds.
“It is gratifying to be part of a solution to provide affordable and sustainable housing options at a time when housing affordability is at a low point,” Mr Nousala said.
“Our business has tripled in the past three years and we are excited to scale up and help produce more housing options in the future.”
Mr Nousala said the next stage is the National Awards which will be held in Melbourne in May, 2025.
“This is enormously exciting for our team, and we’ll be there with bells on!”
