Congratulations and job well done: Show volunteers and helpers thanked
At the Sunshine Coast Agricultural Show Society’s Annual General Meeting the committee wanted to celebrate a fantastic 2023 Show, by particularly recognising the amazing contribution of our show volunteers.
“It was important for us to recognise and pay respect to the youth as they are the future of the show and show movements,” said Treasurer and Secretary Jasmine Bethell.
“To organise and put on a show takes many hands and many hours, and the dedication and enthusiasm of all volunteers is appreciated enormously. We also wanted to acknowledge our stewards whose commitment makes the show what it is. We are all greatly anticipating next year’s show and can’t wait to see what 2024 brings.”
Pictured below are some of the many volunteers & supporters who received certificates of appreciation from the Show Society for their amazing efforts.
2023 Sunshine Coast Agricultural Show Presidents Report from Rowan O’Hara
What another great team effort. From the management team, office team, chief stewards, stewards, volunteers, partners, contractors, and community groups we have a well organised, complex show that continues to raise the bar and produce a quality product that we can all be so proud of.
This year the Sunshine Coast Show swelled with patrons again, with 35,916 total happy people through the gates, the best in many years.
With the bonus that we made a nice small profit, which we can use to continue to build the quality of the show we produce. I would also like to congratulate all the competition entrants for the 5572 entries, but also the quality of the entries was of a very high standard.
The pavilions once again excelled not only in entries, but in presentation. To Jenny and her wonderful team of stewards and volunteers, well done.
A great addition this year was the IGA providore, in which suppliers and patrons enjoyed. The Art entries more than doubling and the quality was of a professional art gallery. This is an area where we do need to improve infrastructure if the numbers are going to continue to grow.
This year the committee made some changes in the cattle sections, and happy to report it was a great success. With the beef cattle moving into the Fergus Scott shed and judged in the new indoor arena, and then cleaned out on Saturday afternoon in time for the dairy to move in on Saturday night. Our amazing education program has the attention of all the ag schools, with the number of schools attending increasing this year.
The local day in the Friday Show Horse Ring exceeded all expectations regarding numbers. It has been a very long time since we have seen this amount of entrants in these classes. We also saw a great roll up of Light Horse this year for the competitions, but also for the light horse tent pegging feature that was run this year.
Well done to all the teams that joined us. Unfortunately, this year our show coincided with another major Showjumping event in Caboolture. The Showjumping team, along with Equestrian Queensland worked hard to try and solve this issue and came up with what we thought was a solution. Unfortunately it did not work in our favour as much as we thought it would, with the result being low numbers in our official Showjumping ring. But I will say a big congratulations to Vicki Ansell for a great job well done under the extreme circumstances. The Showjumping team, including the unofficial Showjumping ring, still ran a great and very professional show.
The entertainment across the grounds this year was well timed and spaced well for crowd flow. The RSL stage on the Bank of Qld- Nambour Hill was in a better location with a great program. I would like to say a big thank you to Cortney for stepping up as MC at the last minute.
The Mackellar Mining Education Stage this year was full of some great acts. With a new addition of a big screen really took this space to a new level. The amazing team of the main arena entertainment this year once again produced another Sunshine Coast spectacular. Would like to thank the great work of Paul Tyack, Clive Featherby and Justin Matthews for the story of the Sunshine Coast as our fireworks theme.
The show could not run with out food for everyone. Thank you Leith and her team for the great work in feeding all our wonderful team across the show for the 4 days. To all the 16 community groups that help us to contribute to the running of our show, Thank you.
To our partners, sponsors and donors, we thank you for your belief in us, and your support. The Sunshine Coast Show needs our wonderful people and businesses to donate, sponsor and partner with us to make the show what it is today. We look forwards to working with you all leading into 2024.
To the management team and office team, you are the backbone of the organization. A great team that works together throughout the year constantly to bring all the pieces together every year in June. A big thank you for your dedication and passion for the Sunshine Coast Show.
This year we received a few committees from other shows from in our Sub chamber and beyond, with members from the Port Lincoln Show in SA that have heard we are one of the best shows to come and have a look at. From entertainers that have publicly announced the Sunshine Coast Show as the best in Australia, to the President of Queensland Ag Show saying publicly it is the best family show he has ever been to.
Well done to everyone involved in our wonderful show, and we look forward to another amazing year in 2024.
