Following a cold and wet winter many feared there would be a limited number of orchids in flower for the Nambour Orchid Society Spring Show.

“Thankfully this was not the case,” said Society Vice President Roger Barratt. “The winter weather was just the catalyst for an incredible display of flowering, ranging across all genera. More specifically, the Dendrobium family put on their finest display, from species to hybrids, they were spectacular!”

Roger said colour and flower formation was of a high standard making the judges’ task difficult.

“Many visitors to the Spring Show commented on the absolute beauty of the amazing display across all genera of orchids.”

Growers and members of numerous Sunshine Coast Societies presented their best orchids in full bloom.

Meanwhile, the Palmwoods Arts and Craft group provided a display of beautifully handcrafted items, which were in much demand.

Nambour Orchid Society are supporters of Cittamani Hospice Services Palmwoods.

Cittamani provides end-of-life palliative care for people in need in their own homes. Care includes the provision of essential equipment, free of charge, for patients to use in their own home.

Nambour Orchid Society will be staging a one-day Orchid Species Show at the Uniting Church Hall, Gloucester Road, Buderim on November 5, 8am-4pm.

This is an open-benched show for members of all orchid societies to bench their plants. Vendors confirmed for this show include Robertson Orchids, Orchid Mania, Rollin Farms Orchids, Woolf Orchidculture and Orchidaceous Supplies.

Anyone interested in growing orchids is welcome to attend the Nambour Orchid Society meeting held on the fourth Saturday of the month at 1pm at the Uniting Church in Nambour.

“This is an open invitation to all who wish to learn more or simply reconnect with their  passion in growing orchids,” said Roger.
