Crushers face tough losses in Round 2 but show promise

The Nambour Crushers faced challenging matches against Caloundra last weekend, with both A Grade and Reserve Grade teams suffering losses of 36-22 and 24-10, respectively.

Despite the defeat the Sunshine Coast Gympie Rugby League Reserve Grade match showcased some promising new talent for the club, including Kalani Walit, Luke Blumke, Zacheus Hopper and Miles Johnson, who were welcomed to the Crushers rugby league family.

Coach Brad Beetson expressed excitement about the potential the new players bring to the team, but emphasized the need for patience, diligence, and discipline in completing one percent efforts.

“Within the playing group sleeps a good football team,” said Beetson, “we just need the hunger, belief, and toughness to work as one for our goals.”

In A Grade, the Crushers welcomed fullback Lachlan Short, who showed impressive quality on debut, but ultimately Caloundra proved too strong. Despite the loss, Beetson noted the promising effort from the Div 1 side, acknowledging that combinations and fluency will take time to develop.

Nambour’s tryscorers in A Grade were Tyron Engle, Lucas Bell, and Nathan Saumalu.

The Crushers’ next match is on Sunday 16 April at Crusher Park at 3pm, against Caboolture who last week lost to Maroochydore 30-26. The Crushers beat Maroochydore in Round 1.
