Martial arts team seeks sponsorship for World Champs

A passionate group of young martial artists from the Hinterland Matt Fiddes team is gearing up to represent Australia at the 2025 International Martial Arts Championships from September 19–21 at the University of Hull.

The team, which includes competitors ranging from ages 5 to over 50 and is supported by their families, is currently intensifying fundraising efforts to cover essential costs such as accommodation, meals, uniforms, transportation, training camps, and flights.

The team has already built an impressive track record. In 2022, 38 students from the team earned 41 medals at the Championships, and in 2023, a first-year competitor qualified for the international event by winning a medal. Among the team members is 13-year-old Oli Johnston from Mooloolah, who, along with his teammates, is determined to continue the legacy of success. Oli, a blue belt with a white stripe, is focused on maintaining his status as he prepares for the upcoming competition.

Organisers are now reaching out to local businesses for sponsorship. They offer a strong advertising platform to connect with a family-oriented community passionate about martial arts. The team’s aim is to increase both the number of competitors and the medals they bring home in 2025.

For more details or to offer support please contact the Hinterland Matt Fides team directly or Oli’s mum, Narelle, on 0438 009 011 or via naudi@bigpond.com. Matt Fiddes classes are held in Mooloolah Valley, Landsborough and Beerwah.

Matt Fiddes team members heading to the UK include, back row from left: Oli Johnston, Ms McDermott & Jessica. Front row: Alex and Ivy. Absent: Ella.
