Centenarian honoured for lifetime of service

Sunshine Coast centenarian, Allan Quartermaine, OAM, was recently (May 22) recognised by Volunteering Queensland for his efforts across many decades. Allan received the Queensland Lifetime Contribution to Volunteering Award at a ceremony at Brisbane’s City Hall.

The beloved Legatee (or Legacy volunteer) with Sunshine Coast Legacy Group has dedicated more than 60 years of tireless service to Legacy.

His vision and guidance have been instrumental in forwarding Legacy’s work supporting the widows and families of Australian Defence Force veterans. The impact he has made on the lives of vulnerable Legacy beneficiaries through his volunteer service is legendary.

Mr Quartermaine was born in Ayr, Queensland in September 1923. His remarkable life featured employment within the Commonwealth Bank across Queensland, including senior management appointments; with a break for active service in the Royal Australian Navy, during the Second World War.

Allan served with distinction on a variety of other community committees including his parish church, sporting and service clubs, and 25 years on the board of Buderim Bowls Club. Allan has served on the Board of Brisbane Legacy and continues to be a valued advisor to the Management Committee of Sunshine Coast Legacy.
