Former Bronco tackles safety with Crushers Under 8s

With a focus on the prevention of head injuries front and centre in rugby league, Nambour Junior Rugby League was pleased to recently provide their Under 8s team with headgear for the season.

Thanks to the generosity of sponsor Coastal Hardscapes and Exteriors, the kids were lucky to be presented with their headgear by former Brisbane Broncos player Jack Reed, pictured, who is now affiliated with the SCRL. This age group was chosen as the Under 8s are the first cohort to tackle during games for the full season. The Under 6 and Under 7 teams play LeagueTag, whilst undertaking at training a Tackle Ready Program developed by the NRL, designed to teach players how to both tackle – and be tackled – safely.

Club President Leith Hensley was thrilled that the club was able to offer an additional layer of safety gear to the younger players.

“With any contact sport comes risk, but with the use of headgear and quality tackle training, not only do we help to instil confidence in our newer players, we also hope to minimise injury,” Leith said. “Sports equipment can be very expensive, so we are grateful to have the support of sponsors such as Coastal Hardscapes and Exteriors in providing such items to our players.  It’s also reassuring to the parents that player safety is a priority.”

With more than 200 players signed on for the season – including an Under 13s Girls team boasting 16 players - Nambour’s Junior Crushers are excited for the season ahead.
