Historic Mapleton market offers diverse local products
With over 55 different stall holders the monthly Mapleton Country Market has grown significantly under the auspices of the Mapleton and District Community Association (MADCA).
The Mapleton Country Market is held in the historic 1899 Mapleton State School carpark on Flaxton Drive, where the original head teacher’s residence was built.
Mr Francis Watt was the first male and married teacher with a young family who taught from 1912 to 1926.
As Mr Watt wanted to remain in the area until all his children were grown, he advised the Mapleton School Committee who in turn applied to the Department of Public Instruction (Dept of Education) to have a school residence built. The family took up residence on April 30, 1917.
With changes to the Department’s housing in the 1990s and the residence being vacant for a number of years the community requested that Maroochy Shire Council move the building from Flaxton Drive to its current site at 17 Obi Obi Road with the relocation taking place in 1997.
The Old School House (TOSH) in Mapleton is a part of our heritage and has been preserved for the community by Council and MADCA.
Come join the convenors Paula Wright and Donna Klease on Saturday July 27 from 8am to 12pm with sourdoughs, tarts, pizza bases, pestos, jams and chutneys, gin, veggies & fruit, honey as well as plants, seedlings, bird & bee hive houses.
Don’t forget to grab your dog and cat treats and accessories as well as flowers, gnomes, wools, timber toys and furniture, arts and crafts and so much more. Grab some hot food at the Lions stall, a barista coffee and listen to our musician Tom “Shaky” Ryan.
All profits from the market have supported the newly formed MADCA Community Grants Scheme that has provided grants recently to the Mapleton Range Kindergarten and the Mapleton Choir.
So meet up with your friends and family for a morning in the beautiful hinterland. See you there!
