Here’s the scoop: we’ve got ice cream

Mark and Kimberley Oates ... “we just loved the atmosphere of Yandina. It’s such a beautiful family friendly place.”

A love affair with Yandina and a 20 year dream to start a business together was the driving force behind Mark and Kimberley Oates’ recently-opened venture, At Odds Cafe in Stevens Street.

“We owned a Subway in Christchurch, New Zealand together many years ago and it was destroyed during the devastating earthquake,” said Mark. “But it gave us our first taste of working together in hospitality and we really enjoyed it.”

The couple moved back to Australia and soon earmarked Yandina as a potential place to open their own business again, after Kimberley had worked at the Yandina Markets for DiBella coffee.

“Even though we live in Tewantin we just loved the atmosphere of Yandina. It’s such a beautiful family friendly place,” Kimberley said. “There is the opportunity to have a wonderful lifestyle here.”

“Having kids ourselves, we know how important it is to make the place welcoming and family friendly,” Mark said. “And we are also mindful of keeping our prices down, because often it is just too expensive to take the kids out. It’s good for mums to be able to meet for a coffee, and be able to buy the kids a homemade biscuit or sandwich.”

The newly installed ice cream cabinet will be of particular interest to the kids, as At Odds is the only place in town where you can buy scoop ice cream.

“We are stocking Everest ice cream which is a beautiful Australian made scoop ice cream,” Kimberley said.

“At the moment we have nine flavours in our range, including favourites such as White Chocolate Raspberry, Rock Salt Caramel, good old fashioned Hokey Pokey. And of course, Rainbow for the kids. We will be expanding our flavours as we go.”

At Odds Cafe serves fresh, home style food with a particular emphasis on sweet goodies which are baked daily.

On the menu you will find freshly baked muffins, cakes and biscuits, Devonshire teas, sandwiches and croissants as well as award winning First Batch coffee, which is roasted and blended in Noosaville.
