Set for Work: PCYC offers youth employment program

Sunshine Coast PCYC is excited to be recruiting again for its ‘Get Set for Work Program’ (GSFW), with over ten places available now for eligible participants between 15 and 19 years of age.

The ‘Skilling Queenslanders for Work’ funded program is designed to provide disengaged young people with nationally recognised training, combined with integrated learning support and skills, so they can successfully transition to employment and/or further education and training and is no cost to participants.

PCYC Sunshine Coast Youth Club Manager, Sergeant Mick Hughes, said the GSFW Program was an important part of the suite of programs offered to the Sunshine Coast Community. “It is specifically designed to give young people who need support to reach their employment or learning goals, the assistance they need to reach their targets.

“We have a small team of youth workers who can work with participants to map-out their goals and work with them at their own pace to achieve them.”

GSFW Program Coordinator DJ Watkins said, in addition to the Cert II accreditation, the team could assist participants with their driver’s licence, fitness goals, resume writing, job applications and developing their skills in preparation for employment or further education and training.

“Our GSFW program is delivered on a ‘rolling intake, so we can work in with participants to deliver a tailored program that works for them,” he said.

• Enquiries for the program can be made by calling 0400 975 821 or email darryl.watkins@pcyc.org.au. PCYC Queensland is at 10 Youth Avenue, Burnside.
