Local Disability Charity, The Compass Institute formed a special collaboration with the Sunshine Coast Film Festival to bring inspirational Australian film ‘From Sky to Sea’ to a packed audience at Majestic Cinemas in Nambour last week.

Compass were pleased to host the Opening Night of the Festival with CEO David Dangerfield saying the movie aligned with Compass’s values of not letting a disability get in the way of achievement.

‘From Sky to Sea’ is a true story about Australian Jaimen Hudson whose dreams took a shocking turn at age 17 when a dirt bike accident rendered him a quadriplegic. It documents his love of life, the love that surrounds him and how his return to the ocean is achieved with the help of a dedicated crew of helpers and film maker Leighton De Barros …  a return that he is willing to risk his life for.

Film Festival Director Murray Power was thrilled with the outcome of the night and said he believes this is a world first - screening a film with disability as the core subject as an opening night feature.

The Sunshine Coast Film Festival continues at Coast cinemas. See details of the full schedule at www.scfilmfestival.com.

Film Festival Movies playing at the Majestic include two German comedies, ‘Grandparenting 101’ on 14 October at 7pm and ‘It’s For Your Own Good’ on October 17 at 2pm.
