Insect screens a perfect fit for our Queenslanders
One of the problems faced by people who live in Queenslanders or older style homes is the lack of insect screens due to the difficulty of screening casement windows and french doors in a practical and non-intrusive way.
In 2012 Marcello started Eco Insect Screens, introducing retractable screens to the Sunshine Coast. His wife Elisa also helps run the business,
“In Italy and throughout Europe, these types of screens are the norm, because most homes and buildings have push out windows,” explained Elisa. “We have a Queenslander ourselves and we did not want to spoil its aesthetic with ugly fixed screens. In an ideal world, we would not need the screens at all, but the insects and mosquitoes really make them a necessity.”
“Our screens are custom made, assembled in our workshop using quality components we source directly from the manufacturers in Italy, Japan and Germany. We have no middle men and this allows us to offer a great product at a very competitive price,” she said.
Marcello was trained in Italy and worked in this industry for many years, even overseas.
“We choose to specialise in two products only,” Elisa said.
“One is for windows and one for doors, and we focus on durability, ease of use and aesthetics.”
Eco Insect Screens are suitable for most difficult-to-screen windows and doors like bifold, casement, French, double hung, stacker and more. Simple to use and reliable, with a non-intrusive design, the screens can be retracted away to access the window and door, or when the screen is not wanted.
“This makes ours a long lasting product which requires less cleaning and is less prone to damage compared to a conventional fixed screen,” she said.
“Our screens are made to measure and are available in customised colours including timber finish. Because our door screens have no floor tracks, they are extremely practical for those in wheelchairs, with mobility issues and kids.”
