Local entrepreneur Belinda Wright is spearheading a creative event in Montville with the inaugural Wearable Denim Art Competition, set to celebrate the ingenuity of local artists while promoting sustainable fashion.

The competition, hosted by Wright’s Chic & Sassy Boutique, invites participants to transform denim into wearable art, encouraging upcycling and artistic expression. Entries are open until July 25, 2024, with prizes of $200 for first place, $100 for second, and $50 for third, promising an incentive for creativity and craftsmanship.

“This competition is about more than just fashion; it’s a celebration of our community’s artistic flair and commitment to sustainability,” said Belinda. “We want to showcase how denim, often discarded, can be reimagined into stunning wearable pieces that reflect personal style and environmental consciousness.”

Participants are encouraged to let their creativity shine, whether through intricate stitching, innovative designs, or unique embellishments. The event not only highlights local talent but also underscores Montville’s dedication to fostering a vibrant arts scene.

In addition to promoting creativity, the competition aligns with global efforts towards sustainable fashion practices. By repurposing denim, contestants contribute to reducing waste and promoting eco-friendly choices.
