Enjoy ‘fantastic celebration’ of business - and bargains!

The countdown is on with only a matter of days to go until the region’s first ever Buy Local Day this Saturday, June 22.

Sunshine Coast Council, in collaboration with Buy Local Sunshine Coast, is calling on all local businesses and consumers to take part in the region-wide celebration.

Buy Local Day aims to draw special attention to local independent shops and businesses across the region with a range of special incentives and activities.

The event is an opportunity for consumers to show their support and appreciation for their favourite local businesses.

Businesses are offering a range of incentives including free coffee tasting at Eumundi Coffee Roasters, 50 per cent off plants with any pot plant combo at Bespoke Plants in Caloundra, 20 per cent off pink diamonds at Avenue J Jewellery in Mooloolaba and buy one shampoo and get one conditioner for free at Uptown Hair Studios in Nambour.

Sunshine Coast Mayor Rosanna Natoli joined the Nambour business community in the lead-up to the day to showcase what the town would have on offer.

“The Sunshine Coast is gearing up for a fantastic celebration and we invite everyone in the region to be part of this special event,” Mayor Natoli said.

“This is more than just a shopping day - it's a chance to strengthen our local economy, support small businesses and foster community spirit.”

Nambour business owner Rhonda Billett said there had never been a better day to support local communities.

"Having owned my small business for 25 years, I understand how important it is to shop local and support our region," Mrs Billett said.

"Buy Local Day is about grabbing your market basket, visiting your favourite coffee shop, local butcher, fruit shop, bakery and retailer and dining in at your favourite restaurant.

"Life is so busy for so many of us these days, but visiting and supporting your favourite local business is one of the greatest gifts you can give back to your community."

Buy Local Day is being delivered with assistance provided through the jointly funded Commonwealth-State Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements (DRFA).

Member for Nicklin Rob Skelton said Sunshine Coast small businesses were the backbone of region’s communities and the engine room of its economy.

“I’m proud to back our Buy Local Day because it’s helping to do what matters for our region’s small businesses and their customers,” Mr Skelton said.

“The new Miles Government is proud to be supporting the Sunshine Coast Council on this campaign, and it’s great to see the support from the local chambers of Commerce and industry groups.”
