Town spirit lights up Woombye  Lantern Parade

Thanks to strong community support and a balmy summer evening, this year’s Woombye Lantern Parade was another fabulous event.

“We are always so grateful to everyone who comes together in big ways and small, to stage this annual event and celebrate Christmas and our beautiful community,” said Woombye Community Branch Manager, Hayley Saunders.

“We enjoyed our traditional celebrations, from the lantern parade to the carols, the Christmas Nativity scene at St Margaret’s Church, and cake,” she said.

“And thanks to a very stubborn donkey from Sixty6 Acres in Woombye, a very funny story came out of the evening as well.

“The original plan was to have their donkeys, Duke and Daisy, attend the event. But this plan was derailed as Duke refused to get into the float. Given that the pair have spent their whole lives together, the decision was made not to bring Daisy on her own,” said Andrew from Sixty6 Acres. Instead, miniature horses, Harry and Hugo made an appearance, much to the delight of all the children. “The wonderful people from the 2nd  Light Horse Regiment-Woombye Troop gave a hand, transporting the little horses, and erecting a temporary fence outside the Woombye Childcare and Kindergarten; but the horses were small enough to walk straight under,” Hayley laughed.

“On behalf of the Branch, I want to say a big thank you to Sixty6 Acres Woombye for bringing along such adorable and well-behaved miniature horses, Woombye Childcare and Kindergarten for the fabulous lanterns that lit the way, St Margaret’s, Woombye WCBA & Friends, and all the wonderful choir participants from “SingSpire” and Restoring Hope Parkinson’s Therapy’s ‘Choir of Sound Intent’. Every volunteer who helped out made the evening a success.”
