Woombye attack dogs euthanised

Provided by Sunshine Coast CouncilSunshine Coast Council maintains a zero tolerance approach to dangerous and aggressive dogs.Council received a report of a dog attack in Kiel Street, Woombye on November 1. Investigation into the incident remains ongoing and a decision about the enforcement action will not be made until the investigation is finalised. The two dogs responsible for the attack were surrendered to Council by their owners and were subsequently euthanised. To reduce the risk of dog attack, prevention is the key.Dog owners must take responsibility for managing and controlling their animals at all times to ensure that other people and animals are protected.Owners should conduct regular checks of their property’s fences or containments to ensure their dog is not looking for ways to escape. It is also vitally important to train and socialise the dog with other animals and people throughout its life. However, if your dog is anxious, nervous or aggressive around other animals or people you should consider muzzling your dog while in public. When taking the dog for a walk, make sure it is being walked by someone who can physically restrain it.If you have concerns about your dog’s behaviour, seek support from a qualified professional.Anyone experiencing or witnessing dogs acting aggressively towards people or animals can contact council on 5475 7272, so we can investigate as soon as possible and take relevant action.
