Global melodies in Eudlo: international acts descend

Windborne includes Lynn Rowan, Lauren Breunig, Jeremy Carter-Gordon and Will Rowan.

Eudlo Hall will resonate with the sounds of global harmony on March 9 as Peace Run Records presents an evening with international sensations Windborne and Christina Tourin.

The event promises to be a sensory feast, headlined by Windborne’s innovative vocal harmonies and complemented by the enchanting Celtic harp of Tourin. Local talents Andrea Kirwin & Claire Evelynn, pictured left, will open the show, promising a blend of soulful vocals and captivating harp melodies.

Windborne is Jeremy Carter-Gordon, Lynn Rowan, Lauren Breunig and Will Rowan. The vocalists balance the time-honoured traditions of vocal harmony with the artists’ unique approaches, elevating the traditional music into the modern age.

Described by BBC Traveling Folk as “just absolutely phenomenal,” they offer a journey across continents and centuries through their music.  Their dynamic harmonies breathe new life into old songs, creating an experience that is rooted by its history, but strikingly relevant to the contemporary listener.

The ensemble shifts effortlessly between drastically different styles of music, drawing their audience along on a journey that spans continents and centuries and illuminating the  power of the voice.

The singers share stories about their songs and explain the context and characteristics of the styles.

Christina Tourin, a harpist with a vast discography and a commitment to harp therapy, brings five decades of experience to share her passion for the instrument.

Christina is praised for bringing thousands of people to the harp through her workshop organisational skills and for introducing the modes into harp education/performance in the early 1970s. Healing with sound, working in hospitals and hospices,  composing, teaching  and writing books round out her full life.

The night will also mark the release of Andrea Kirwin’s new single, ‘A Village Dreams,’ featuring Windborne, which was commissioned for the Woodford Folk Festival’s Closing Ceremony.

• Doors open at 6.30pm for a 7.20pm start. Tickets range from $35 general admission to $1 donations. Children under 5 free.  To book tickets visit www.windbornesingers.com/concerts
