What’s On: International jazz guitarist coming to Ginger Factory

Libor Šmoldas.

Widely considered to be one of the best jazz guitarists in the Czech Republic, Libor Šmoldas ranks among the stars of the Czech jazz scene. He plays, teaches and records with the international stars of the jazz world and regularly tours the USA, Europe and Australia, performing and running jazz workshops.

For the last few years, Libor has been in Queensland to tour and teach.

The Libor Smoldas Quartet has gained recognition across the Czech Republic, Europe and the USA, playing hundreds of concerts both in clubs and festivals. He has also toured Europe with our own James Morrison.

Libor will be performing on the Sunshine Coast at a special event - The Ginger Factory’s first ever “Jazz After Dark” event. With the park opening for one evening only, patrons can stroll through the gardens, take a ride on the train and then sit down for dinner and jazz by candlelight.

Libor will be performing with local jazz star Robyn Brown plus some of Queensland’s best musicians, Ross Nixon, Peter Walters and Rodney Ford (from Galapagos Duck). The outfit will be performing a selection of contemporary jazz, originals, vulnerable ballads and a unique take on modern classics.

• Supported by the Glasshouse Country Christian College Jazz Ensemble, this will be a very special evening. Tickets are $35, can be booked through The Ginger Factory’s website, www.gingerfactory.com.au.
