Sunshine Coast Gridiron club the Spartans are back at training and looking forward to the new season which starts on October 3.

“It’s a great stepping stone for players that are interested in pursuing a different sport,” said long time member Will Outridge. “The club has had a number of players in recent years move on to playing in the US at high school and Division 1 college levels. Some from Queensland have even made it onto active NFL rosters. One has won a Super Bowl.”

The Spartans will field Youth juniors, 10-13, juniors, 14-16, colts, 17-19, and A-grade teams. Women are more than welcome to play, the club has a history of female players going on to state and national teams.

Training sessions are at Stockland Sports Precinct on Wednesdays at 6pm and Saturday’s at 8am. Though team training kicked off at the start of June, registered players were recently given their shoulder pads and helmets. Most of the equipment is new this year, offering superior protection to players while also being easier and more comfortable to use.

This year the club is uniting forces with the Deception Bay Raptors.

With the season starting in a few weeks, it’s still not too late to come along, train and play.
