Community mourns loss of dedicated volunteer

Vale Marlene Jackson
January 9, 1944–February 13, 2025

Born Marlene Katherine Dwyer, January 9, 1944 at Cooroy Hospital, Marlene was the second child to Noel and Kathleen Dwyer.  

Marlene grew up in Cooroy with Brothers Des, Roger Gary and Sister Sheryl. Marlene attended Cooroy State school and then went to St Patrick’s Convent, Gympie as a boarder for two years to Study for her junior Certificate.

After her marriage to Ross Jackson in 1965, she moved to Norman Ave, Nambour Heights before the construction of their new home not far down the road at Burnside.  

Marlene worked at the Nambour TAB for 15 Years, before her and Ross purchased the then Maroochy Airport Kiosk business in 1980. 

They successfully operated that business helping promote the region to many travellers for over 19 years. 

Before her retirement she was working part-time with Australia Post in Nambour. 

40 years of community involvement

Marlene was an active member of the community for well over 40 years. 

Her community involvement included Tennis, at Nambour Heights, Bridge with Nambour, Mapleton Clubs and being an active member of the local Neighbourhood watch. 

At many of these she also completed various roles or positions on the committees.  

She also volunteered at Sundale Village Kiosk, St Joseph’s Parish, Rotary and with St Vincent de Paul. 

Marlene passed away on February 13, 2025 at Selangor Hospital after a short illness. 

She was farewelled by many family and wonderful friends at Gregson and Weight Nambour on February 20, 2025. 

Marlene is survived by husband Ross, two sons, two daughters-in-law, five grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
