Autism Awareness is being highlighted internationally through the month of April, and the staff at Uptown Hair Studio in Nambour wore blue recently to make sure the word gets out.
With blue being the Autism awareness colour, they also decorated the salon in blue balloons and streamers, and also sold blue cupcakes to generate donations for the cause.
One of the staff members, Keren Freeman, said they had clients and staff members who had family members with Autism.
“It’s something that’s close to home for all of us in here, so it’s something we like to do every year,” Ms Freeman said.
The whole of April is Autism Awareness Month.
Around 1 in every 100 children is affected by Autism, which is a developmental disorder that is characterised by communication and social interaction difficulties and by repetitive behaviour.
The day aims to generate awareness and support for areas like research, diagnoses, treatment, and to encourage community acceptance for those affected.
