Antique Car Club steers support to local causes
Revving their engines not just for show, but for heartfelt impact, the Sunshine Coast Antique Car Club has capped off the year with a spirited show of community support. From backing a young adventurer’s anti-bullying cause to fuelling critical neighbourhood services, the club’s recent donations prove that true classics never go out of style—on the road or in the community.
On December 1 at the Sunshine Coast Antique Car Club’s casual Christmas function, members were regaled by its special guest, Sam Hughes, the ‘Travelling Jackeroo’.
SCACC members first met Sam just prior to his departure at the club’s 2021 ‘Sign-On’ display and were fascinated by his ‘rig’ and delighted with his positive ‘can-do’ attitude. Sam’s adventures have been followed closely online by many of our members as he travelled over 26,000 kilometres on his trusty Chamberlain tractor with its unusual, eye-catching, but all important ‘extras’.
Sam thoroughly entertained our group with stories of his escapades and his encounters with various characters. In response to his passion for raising funds and awareness for deserving causes the SCACC presented Sam with a donation of $500 to go to the work of Dolly’s Dream, a program working to overcome the devastating effects of bullying through education and direct support.
Classic cars at Community Day
Saturday December 7 saw a significant number of members’ vintage and classic cars displayed at the Maroochy Neighbourhood Centre to support their ‘Community Day’. Apart from thoroughly enjoying the MNC’s sausage sizzle, coffee, scones and cream, members donated a collection of grocery items and $1500 to the ‘One Roof Project’.
This recent contribution and a previous donation of $5000 reflects the respect the SCACC has for the work of this vital project which provides meals, food hampers, essential services and various forms of support to people in need.
Cr Joe Natoli kindly joined SCACC President, Kev Bailey, in making the presentation to Mark Ellis of the Maroochy Neighbourhood Centre to assist with their ongoing work.
The mission of LifeHouse has become known to SCACC members through some of our keen ukelele players and two consequent vintage, veteran and classic displays at Goodlife, Buderim.
LifeHouse Resource Centre donation
Jenny Hadfield, of LifeHouse Resource Centre, joined members at the clubrooms on Wednesday December 11 to describe how her organisation helps homeless people into fresh accommodation through the provision of furniture, white goods and linen to help them create a home.
SCACC President Kev Bailey presented Jenny Hadfield with a donation of $1,500 to assist with the ever-increasing demand on their services.
These contributions to community care organisations are the consequence of raising funds through The Nambour Swap. The Sunshine Coast Antique Car Club appreciates the support it receives from the community at their Swap Meet always held on the last Saturday every July. This is the Club’s way of supporting local community care organisations in return.
