Looking to try something new this Easter? Here are some Hinterland treats to get you outside and get your tastebuds and your senses tingling.

1. We have Hot Cross Buns – with a twist

For many, there is nothing more delicious than a warm Hot Cross Bun slathered with a generous amount of butter. But have you ever tried buns, with beer? This Easter, take your love for Hot Cross Buns to the next level at Terella Brewing with a glass of their Hot Cross Bun Golden Ale. The brew uses a dozen real caramel hot cross buns to make this Australian-style bitter, giving the beer notes of spicy cinnamon and glazed bread which pair perfectly with its toasted malt bill. If that isn’t enough to get you excited, they also have a White Choc Stout whose coffee aroma is complemented by hints of vanilla and chocolate - yum.

2. Create your own choc-trail

Recreate the magic of Easter morning by following your own chocolate trail in the hinterland. Start your day on the picturesque Blackall Range – a treat in itself – to stop in to the iconic Chocolate Country at Montville or Maleny Chocolate Co. Meanwhile, Fudgyboombahs of Montville has ‘Easter Bun Fudge’ for sale and even ‘Hot Cross Bun Fudge’.

3. Decorate your own eggs

Speaking of Montville’s Chocolate Country, they will be open throughout the Easter weekend. After having to cut back on Easter celebrations last year they are going all out this year with some uniquely beautiful creations made in store by their dedicated and artistic chocolatiers. Plus, on Good Friday and Easter Saturday, you can even create and decorate your own Easter Egg shaped 250g chocolate slab, call ahead on 5442 9562 to book a place.

4. Discover unique events

From the coast to the Hinterland there’s plenty to experience on the Sunshine Coast this Easter, and the Australian Body Art Festival is certainly one of the most unique. Held from 9-11 April in Cooroy, this festival of colour celebrates body painting and wearable art. This year’s theme is ‘Time Travel’ and entry is free, with market stalls and entertainment also on offer.

5. Unwind – for real

Once you find yourself suitably stuffed full of chocolate, beer and buns, the Sunshine Coast is the perfect place to unwind. There’s plenty to explore, including the Glass House Mountains, Mary Cairncross Scenic Reserve and Maleny Botanic Gardens & Bird World. For some real hidden gems, visit the Maroochy Wetlands Sanctuary, or take a hike to the summit of Mount Ninderry – you can even bring your dog!

6. Discover & explore at the Ginger Factory

There’s so much to Discover & Explore at The Ginger Factory ahead of the Easter school holidays! Join the Gruffalo Spotters Club on your next visit.  The Ginger Factory Explorer’s map is the perfect activity for little ones!  These school holidays there will also be Easter colouring activities, DIY Gingerbread Men decorating kits available from the Ice Creamery and everyone’s favourite rides and tours: The Overboard Boat Ride, Moreton the Train, Live Bee Shows & more!
