New location the right move for Sunshine Coast Pinball

Owner Vaughan Jones says he’s glad he moved to the new location. “We can see the support is here for it.”

Medieval Madness is one of the world’s most popular games.

The move is over. The doors have been open for a few weeks in its new premises at Majestic Cinemas. And now it’s down to just the finishing touches as Sunshine Coast Pinball  prepares for its October 14 official Grand Opening.

Owner Vaughan Jones said he was always confident the move from the former Currie Street location to upstairs next to the cinema made sense, and early indications are he was right.

“Just in the last week or two I’ve gone, ‘Wow, it’s going to be okay’,” he said. “Because we weren’t sure. Everything’s a bit of a gamble, isn’t it? But we can see the support is here for it. The feedback has been really strong, which is the most important thing. People are coming in and looking at the new venue and saying, ‘Wow, this is awesome. Well done’.

“There were almost no reasons not to move here. The big takeaway for us is the huge dedicated bar/servery area, which gives us the opportunity to do everything from selling beers and spirits on tap through to making milkshakes and things like that. We couldn’t do that at our other shop. There’s also a big kitchen here for us to fire up. That will be like a phase-two of our launch — hot food and seated dining and things like that.”

The Nambour arcade is considered to be a benchmark venue for Australian Pinball,  one of the best in the country for enthusiasts.

But Vaughan said it continued to appeal to everyone from youngsters to serious players. “It is a fun place for little kids and it’s a fun outing for families, grandparents and their grandkids,” he said. “And, of course, it’s also here for serious players, players who are developing, youth players and competitive players.  It operates on a lot of levels.”

Certainly, players of all levels will enjoy the latest pinball machine, Medieval Madness.

“It’s considered to be the greatest pinball machine ever made,” said Vaughan. “It’s very, very collectible. They only made about 4000 of them back in 1997, and there’d only be a couple of thousand left now. And that one rolled in here a week or so ago, and it’s the crown jewel of my collection, being an incredibly collectible machine. You see very few of them.”

Vaughan said he wanted to put the call out to Nambour to get to know your local arcade.

“Come and discover it, support it, and it’ll be here forever. It’s something we can all be proud of.”

• Tokens to play cost $1 each or 83 cents if you spend $5 or more. You can purchase from the token machine in the middle of the room, which is automatic and takes cash or card, or you can grab a cold drink and buy tokens from the counter. Dozens of some of the greatest pinball games ever made plus classic arcades, air hockey and three pool tables. It’s on the top floor, C-Square Nambour. 52-64 Currie Street, next to Majestic Cinemas.
