The inaugural Sunshine Coast Parkinson’s Conference is set to take place on Thursday, October 3, 2024, at the Maroochydore RSL. The event, organised by The Park Parkinson’s Wellness Centre in collaboration with Sundale, aims to raise awareness, enhance treatment options, and advocate for individuals living with Parkinson’s disease.

Rory Cullinan, CEO of The Park Parkinson’s Wellness Centre, highlighted the importance of the conference in advocating for those affected by Parkinson’s. “This event fits into our mission of advocacy. Our centre focuses on holistic care, and this conference extends that by educating not only patients but also their carers, who often need just as much support and information.”

The conference will feature expert speakers from various fields, covering topics such as new therapies, innovative care strategies, and how to better support patients and their caregivers. It will provide essential information to patients, families, and health professionals, filling the knowledge gap for many affected by the disease. The Keynote Speaker will be Vicki Miller, CEO of Shake It Up Australia, a not-for profit organisation who partner with the Michael J. Fox Foundation to fund vital research into the treatment and ultimately a cure of Parkinson’s Disease.

Sundale Board Chairperson Terence Seymour highlighted his organisation’s commitment to supporting Parkinson’s awareness. “We got involved after witnessing the remarkable impact of the Choir of Sound Intent, a choir made up of people living with Parkinson’s. This conference is an extension of our dedication to helping the community.”

The conference is open to all, with a focus on providing practical, up-to-date knowledge to help manage and treat Parkinson’s. Attendees will also have the opportunity to connect with key local organisations that offer support services for those living with Parkinson’s and their families.
