Master storyteller Fred Smith is bringing his unique songs to Nambour’s Black Box Theatre on Sunday July 5.

His show Sparrows of Kabul is an extraordinary song cycle on Australia’s involvement in Afghanistan, culminating in the dramatic evacuation from Kabul in August 2021.

Fred was there at the beginning in Uruzgan Province and returned at the end working from Kabul International Airport (KIA) on the difficult evacuation.

His epitaph for the mission is “it was what it was”, and we are left admiring the courage and tenacity of thousands of Afghans who braved the human logjams outside the gates of Kabul International Airport in a last-ditch dash for freedom.

This event is being hosted by the popular Sunday Folk concert series that has been bringing high quality national and international folk performers to Nambour for the last seven years. Fred last played here in March 2020. Early performances of his latest concert have received rave reviews.

Tickets are available on Trybooking for $23/$20. The June 5 show is recommended for ages 13 and over and child tickets are also available for $10. Doors open at 1.30pm for the 2pm show at the Black Box Theatre, Nambour. Bookings: www.trybooking.com/BZIHI
