Start your engines!

By Kerry BrownFor most of the year Kenilworth is a sleepy Hinterland town but every now and then there is some action for a good cause. Last year more than 180 cars came from all over to take part in the annual Classic and Custom Car Show to raise much needed funds for the local State Emergency Service (SES). This year will be bigger than ever with live rock and roll music, markets and trade stalls, a kids jumping castle and more cars than ever before! It all started six years ago when Kenilworth publican, Steve Conway, wanted to join a car club but there was not a local one to join so he started the Mary Valley Classic Car Club Inc, "I asked around to see how much interest there would be and there was plenty so the club was formed," Steve said. "We then had the idea to start a car show here in Kenilworth and the first two events we held on Australia Day, but there were floods and it was a disaster really. We changed the date to April and have never looked back. Last year we even had to shut the gates because we had so many entries."Streets will be closed again this year and Mary Valley Classic Car Club member Lever Skoupy said they have organised more space to accommodate the growing interest, "Car and street machine shows are few and far between and car enthusiasts usually have to travel long distances to get to shows," Lever said. "This is a great opportunity for anyone with a classic or custom car and it is a great day out for the family too."For more information on the car show you can contact Steve Conway Ph 5446 0206 or email kenilworthhotel@bigpond.com.
