Jampa’s Spirit of Tibet

Nambour’s Queen Street is set to tantalise taste buds with the opening of Jampa’s Spirit of Tibet, helmed by renowned chef Jampa.

Known for his authentic and flavourful Tibetan cuisine, Jampa brings a blend of influences to the heart of Nambour in what he hopes will become a renowned restaurant for the town.

“I want it to be an iconic attraction for the town, my ultimate dream would be that my restaurant would be for Nambour and for Tibetan food what the Spirit House is for Yandina,” he said.

“I want people to make a special trip to Nambour because the food is so good here.

“I love Queen Street. I think everybody knows Queen Street. It has a character. And I think Nambour is a town that is growing.

“Plus, I didn’t realise how many people living in Nambour used to come to my restaurant in Forest Glen. I have 200 advance bookings already.

“I think Nambour also needs something different like my restaurant so people want to stay in Nambour rather than go to the coast to dine out.”

Having built a loyal following at his previous restaurants in Mooloolaba and Forest Glen Chef Jampa is celebrated for his handmade samosas and Momos, alongside his signature Shashi chicken.

Each dish is crafted from scratch, showcasing traditional Tibetan spices and fresh, seasonal ingredients. “Everything I prepare is made fresh from local ingredients wherever possible.

“I don’t use bought fish sauce or anything like that. For instance, I buy my meat from Queen Street Butchers and my fruit and vegetables from Fruity Life Nambour.”

Tasty menu

The menu offers a diverse selection, catering to all palates. Highlights include the Shiza Chicken, cooked with homemade pesto and roasted pine nuts, and the vegetarian Potato and Chickpea Curry, rich with coconut cream and spices.

For those seeking something unique, the Tibetan Goat Curry features tender goat meat with pumpkin and potatoes, reminiscent of a traditional village dish.

Prices are low with all vegetable dishes costing just $20.90, chicken dishes $21.90 and goat dishes $22.90. Jampa is keen to point out there’s plenty of parking available at night in parking lots across the street.

Beyond the food, the restaurant’s ambiance enhances the dining experience.

Traditional Tibetan decor, including prayer flags and colourful tapestries, adorn the space, creating an inviting atmosphere that encourages guests to linger.

• Jampa’s Spirit of Tibet opens on July 17 at 18 Queen Street, Nambour, and will operate from Wednesday to Saturday, 4pm-8pm. For inquiries, contact 0436 312 669. Prepare to embark on a delightful culinary adventure right in the heart of Nambour.

Jampa wants his restaurant to be an iconic attraction for the town.
