Golden Guitar winner plays Sunday Folk event
Michael Waugh has won a Golden Guitar award and toured with Eric Bogle, so it’s fair to say that fans of both folk and country music will love his songs. He is a songwriter’s songwriter, a compelling live performer and an extraordinary storyteller.
On Sunday September 25 he’ll be making his first Sunshine Coast appearance when he performs at Nambour’s popular Sunday Folk event at the Black Box Theatre. Host Karen Law admits she’s wanted to bring Michael to town for some years. “I literally jumped for joy when he confirmed the show,” she said. “I think he’s among the absolute best Australian songwriters touring right now.”
Karen isn’t alone in her views. Alternative country luminary Shane Nicholson describes Michael Waugh as being “perched on a songwriting mountain not many of us could hope to climb” and folk legend Eric Bogle says “Michael takes all the elements of the human condition and lyrically moulds them into something that is very special indeed, the mark of a compassionate and insightful human being and a gifted songwriter.”
Special guests the Karen Law Trio, back from their recent tour of NSW, will open the show with a set of their own award-winning folk inspired story-songs.
Doors open at 1.30pm for a 2pm start at Nambour’s Black Box Theatre which is part of the Old Ambulance Station. Bar, tea, coffee and cakes are available. Tickets are on sale now through Trybooking and cost $23 for adults and $20 concession.
