Woombye Snakes will meet Kawana in the Premier Men’s Sunshine Coast Football Grand Final after defeating favourites Nambour-Yandina United 2-1 in the preliminary final on Saturday.

Woombye, who finished fourth on the ladder, came from 1-nil behind to beat the minor Premiers in a major upset in the 1v4 semi-final at Maroochydore.

It means they now meet Kawana this Saturday night at 6pm, again at Maroochydore.

Woombye FC President Andy Kinden said he was not surprised his team lifted for the clash. “We’ve had close games with NYU through the season so it was no surprise to us,” he said. “We had nothing to lose so we had no pressure. They were the team to beat through the season, but unfortunately for them anything can happen in finals football.”

Kawana beat Noosa in the 2v3 playoff to qualify for the grand final.

Nambour-Yandina United fared well in other grades with Premier Ladies, Premier Reserve Ladies and 4th Division Gold making the finals.

Woombye Snakes Premier Reserve Men will meet Nambour-Yandina United in the Grand Final at 3.45pm, also at Maroochydore.
