After 22 years of cooking up a storm in Shali’s Cafe, mother and daughter team, Sheila and Shalini Carnevale will be adding to their usual offerings, with piping hot and tasty burgers and fish and chips on Friday and Saturday nights.

“At the end of the week, it is so nice to let someone else do the cooking,” Shali said.

“We have just welcomed Maryanne Maclachlan to our team and she will be bringing her fabulous fish and chip expertise with her.”

Maryanne formerly owned Palmwoods Takeaway and her fish and chips were firm favourites with her faithful local customers.

Shalini and Sheila have lived in Montville for 50 years and since taking on Shali’s Cafe, have become well known for their delicious family curries and samosas, with Tandoori Chicken, Lamb Vindaloo, Vegetable Korma, Butter Chicken and Beef Rogan Josh all becoming menu staples.

“We cook to my mum’s recipes and it is wonderful to be able to share these authentic recipes with our customers,” said Shali.

“We are planning to introduce curries and samosas to our evening menu some time in the new year.”

The duo serve hearty breakfasts and morning teas, with traditional favourites such as big breakfasts, banana loaf, muffins and devonshire teas all on the menu.

The team offers a mouthwatering variety of fresh and toasted sandwiches and wraps, lasagne and filo pastries.

Salads and gluten free options also feature on the menu.

“We are really excited about our Friday and Saturday night burgers and fish and chips options.” Shali said.

“The ingredients are fresh and tasty, and sure to please the fussiest eaters. And it means you can put your feet up at the end of the week and let someone else head into the kitchen,” she laughed.

Shali’s Cafe is open from 7am until 2.30pm, 7 days a week. The burger and fish and chips meals are available from 4.30pm - 7.15pm on Friday and Saturday nights. The cafe is at 176 Main St, Montville and you can call on 5442 9488. There will be a website coming soon.
