The Sunshine Coast hinterland came alive with creativity and community spirit as Arts Connect Inc’s annual event, Sculpture on the Edge, celebrated its 15th year at the picturesque Flaxton Gardens. Over nine days from November 24, thousands of art enthusiasts braved the elements to partake in a feast of art, food, and natural beauty.

Despite experiencing the wettest November since 1980, the inclement weather did little to dampen spirits. In fact, the rain seemed to enhance the event’s allure, drawing even more visitors eager to immerse themselves in the artistic displays.

Flaxton Gardens provided a stunning backdrop for the exhibition of indoor and outdoor sculptures, all available for purchase.  “We loved every moment, even dancing in the rain,” said Flaxton Gardens’ Marlene Murray. “It did not deter the numbers, and thank you to all the locals for understanding that it is a big, robust event full of life and action daily with artist talks, dining, and workshops.”

The event aimed to ignite imaginations, inspire, and delight attendees, showcasing the talent of local and visiting artists. The appreciation and enthusiasm from visitors were higher than ever, with many expressing gratitude for the opportunity to engage with art in such a unique setting.

Workshops were a highlight of the event, enticing participants to uncover hidden talents or refine existing skills. Attendees had the chance to engage in artist talks, dine amidst the artworks, and partake in hands-on activities that fostered a deeper connection to the artistic process.

The success of the event was bolstered by the generous support of local sponsors, donors, and event partner Flaxton Gardens. Special thanks were extended to all who contributed, ensuring that Sculpture on the Edge remains a highlight on the hinterland calendar each year.

Sculpture on the Edge continues to be a beacon for artists and art lovers, offering an inspiring blend of creativity, culture, and camaraderie in the heart of the Sunshine Coast hinterland.
